3 Sure-Fire Ways to Make Your Move MORE Stressful

There’s all kinds of bad moving advice out there, so our Knoxville realty team decided not to contribute to that pool. Instead, we’re here to give you great advice you can use if you want to make your move more stressful – so follow these tips to set yourself up for the hardest move you’ll ever do!

3 Sure-Fire Ways to Make Your Move MORE Stressful

If you’re like most people, you already know that moving requires quite a juggling act. You’re prepared, though – you have packing tape, labels and a great attitude ready to go. In case you’d like to make your move harder, follow these three sure-fire ways to make your move more stressful than it needs to be:

  1. Skip the labels on boxes, and cram in whatever fits anywhere you can
  2. Wait until the last minute to pack, schedule movers and switch your utilities
  3. Wing it on packing supplies, relying on trash bags to get you from Point A to Point B

Here’s a closer look so you know exactly what to do to shake things up a bit.

Tip #1 for Making Your Move More Stressful: Skip the labels on boxes, and cram in whatever fits anywhere you can

Why would you take 37 seconds to label your boxes after you’ve packed them according to where they’ll belong in your new home?

You wouldn’t – unless you were some kind of weirdo who wanted packing and moving to be easy.

Don’t bother choosing color-coded labels or using markers in coordinating colors to denote where boxes belong. You can sit on the sofa opening box after box, carrying each’s contents to the appropriate rooms for hours on end, after you’ve moved into your new space. Bonus: You’ll get all your steps in making unnecessary trips!

Tip #2 for Making Your Move More Stressful: Wait until the last minute to pack, schedule movers and switch your utilities

People who pack early and pack often are suckers. Why would you go without essential items when you can simply toss everything into boxes the day before you move?

And why would you save money by scheduling a move early (and during the week), when movers tend to charge more and work more carelessly on weekends? You wouldn’t – unless you wanted to save money and work with movers who aren’t rushed to get to another job right away. Pssh!

Tip #3 for Making Your Move More Stressful: Wing it on packing supplies, relying on trash bags to get you from Point A to Point B

Don’t waste your time picking up boxes from grocery stores and retailers, or your money buying boxes and packing supplies from a moving company. You can cram extra-heavy items into boxes so they’re more difficult to move, and when you run out of supplies… what else were you going to use that box of fragranced trash bags under the sink for? If they break open, spill or fall, your belongings will (probably) be okay.
